Out of Darkness, Light is April Bulmer’s 11th book of poetry. She holds Master’s degrees in creative writing, religious studies (women and religion) and theological studies. Her poems often address the role and magic of the divine feminine. She lives in Cambridge, Ontario but was born and raised in Toronto where she worked at TVOntario and Maclean’s magazine. Her work has been set to women’s choir music at the Oberlin Conservatory in Ohio and has been published widely in such prestigious publications as The Malahat Review, PRISM international. Arc, The Journal of Feminist Studies in Religion, The Anglican Theological Review and The Globe and Mail. Her writing has won many contests and her second book, The Weight of Wings, was shortlisted for the Pat Lowther Memorial Award for the best book of poetry by a Canadian woman. Her ninth, And With Thy Spirit (Hidden Brook Press), was a finalist in the spirituality category in the 2018 Next Generation Indie Book Awards in the U.S.A. April has also written feature stories for such publications as Grand magazine, The Toronto Star, The Cambridge Reporter and The Cambridge Citizen. She works frequently as a poetry editor and judge.
